We would like to invite you to join us for the third of a four-part webinar series focusing on the impact of COVID-19 on institutional participants in Africa’s capital markets. Hosted by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and Allan Gray, this series is a virtual edition of the ninth African Financial Markets Initiative/AfDB Annual Workshop.
During the third webinar, African institutional investors will share their experiences in managing assets and liabilities. The panellists represent the Government Institutions Pension Fund of Namibia, the World Bank’s Reserves Advisory and Management Program, Allan Gray and the AfDB African Domestic Bond Fund/Mauritius Commercial Bank. This event will be moderated by Arnold Derek Bagubwagye from the Bank of Uganda.

Arnold has worked at the Bank of Uganda for the last 16 years, currently as the deputy director of the Financial Markets department. He has overseen reforms in the domestic debt market including infrastructure, legal, regulatory and product development in Uganda. He is currently participating in harmonisation of financial markets operations in the EAC as they move towards a monetary union.
Immanuel is the manager of treasury at the GIPF with over 12 years’ experience in investments. He was a portfolio manager with the Bank of Namibia until 2015. Immanuel holds a degree in Economics from the University of Namibia and an MSc (Investments) from the University of Stirling.
Bernard joined the World Bank in 1998 and is lead financial officer with the Reserves Advisory and Management Partnership (RAMP) program of the World Bank Treasury. He has over 30 years’ experience in finance and investments covering governance, policy, strategic asset allocation, risk and analytics. Bernard is a CFA® charterholder, a CPA and holds an MSc (Fin) and an MBA.
Abhi is head of the Fixed Income and Currencies team at MCB Capital Markets (CM). He joined MCB CM in 2015 and manages multiple strategies, with a focus on African fixed income. Prior to joining the firm, he was a portfolio manager at MEAG New York, and a risk manager and credit analyst at Genworth Financial. Abhi is a CFA® charterholder, a PRM and holds an MEcon.
Rory joined Allan Gray as an equity analyst in 2008. He was appointed as a portfolio manager in 2017 and manages a portion of the equity, balanced, frontier markets equity and African equity portfolios. He holds a BBusSc in Economics and Finance from UCT and is a CFA® charterholder.
