Join Bloomberg and the African Development Bank (AfDB) for the latest in the Central Banks Webinar Series, which will discuss developments in African bond markets through the performance of the Bloomberg African Bond Index (BADB).
Hosted by Bloomberg's Chief Economist, Michael McDonough, the webinar will include special guest speaker Cedric Mbeng, Chief African Bond Markets Specialist at the AfDB who will outline the bank's work on building efficient bond markets across Africa and the value proposition of the African Domestic Bond Fund (ADBF), an ETF that replicates the performance of BADB.
Paul Hopkinson, Bloomberg's Emerging Markets Product Manager, will focus on leveraging technology for local capital market development and Karthick Chandrasekaran, BVAL Product Manager will explain the critical role of Bloomberg Valuation (BVAL) in the evolution and addition of new countries to the index.

Cedric Mbeng - Chief Capital Markets, African Development Bank
Cédric Mbeng Mezui is Chief Capital Markets and leads the African Financial Markets Initiative (AFMI) at the African Development Bank. Since 2008, he has carried out field missions to finance projects (public and private) and the implementation of financial sector reforms in more than 40 countries in Africa for more than $ 4 billion in total loans. He has contributed to the creation / promotion of financial instruments and institutions such as: Africa50, ETF, project bonds, diaspora bonds, etc. He led the structuring and the launch of the first multi-jurisdictional fixed income ETF in Africa, African Domestic Bond Fund (ADBF).
Cédric Mbeng holds a Master’s Degree in Banking and Financial Engineering from Toulouse Business School (France).
Michael McDonagh - Chief Economist and Global Business Manager for Central Banks, Bloomberg
Michael McDonough is the Chief Economist and Global Business Manager for Central Banks & Government Financial Agencies at Bloomberg LP where he provides guidance on economic trends, strategic insight and outreach to central banks and government financial agencies around the world.
Michael’s previous roles at Bloomberg include building the company's first global team of economists, who provides in‐depth analysis of macroeconomic data, policy and trends as well as a voice at crucial financial conferences. Prior to managing the economists, he oversaw Bloomberg’s global economic business, including product development and data acquisition on the Bloomberg Professional Services. Michael also spent two years in Hong Kong where he focused on Asian markets while launching Bloomberg’s research business in Asia.
Paul Hopkinson - Emerging Markets Product Manager, Bloomberg LP.
Paul Hopkinson is a global product manager at Bloomberg, based in London. He is responsible for business strategy and product development of Bloomberg's Foreign Exchange trading platform FXGO with a particular focus on emerging markets. FXGO is a part of the Bloomberg Professional service, the world's most trusted source for real-time and historical financial data, news, research and analytics.
Dr. Hopkinson was an instrumental member of the team responsible for the development and growth of FXGO over the last several years. FXGO is part of a suite of products available through the Bloomberg Professional service covering the full trade life cycle including pre-trade and post-trade analytics, trade execution, risk management and post trade services. Dr. Hopkinson joined Bloomberg in 2009 as a specialist salesperson for FXGO with focus on EMEA emerging markets. He started his current role as global product manager for FXGO in 2010.
Prior to joining Bloomberg, Dr. Hopkinson held various technical and product management roles in FX electronic trading at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, J.P. Morgan and Saxo Bank. Dr. Hopkinson has a BSc (Hons) in Biology with Ecology from the University of East Anglia and a PhD in Conservation Biology from Imperial College, University of London.
Karthick Chandrasekaran - Bloomberg Valuation (BVAL) Product Manager, Bloomberg LP.
Karthick Chandrasekaran is the Product Manager for Bloomberg based in London. He is responsible for developing Evaluated Pricing (BVAL) for markets in EMEA and Asia. BVAL offers pricing transparency and quality in the fixed income valuation market and a primary pricing source for the Bloomberg Barclays Indices. Traders, portfolio/risk managers, analysts and auditors have access to pricing on approximately 2.5 million securities on the Terminal or enterprise feed.
Since joining Bloomberg in 2009, Karthick has held multiple position within the BVAL organisation. In his current role since 2015 he has successfully created Fixed Income pricing (BVAL) for various global markets. Prior to joining Bloomberg, Karthick held model development positions at Sundaram BNP Asset Management and Unifi Wealth Management.
